この度、LURF GALLERY（ルーフギャラリー）2Fでは、1998年生まれの9名の作家によるグループ展「1998_oid」を開催いたします。

9名の作家たちは、それぞれが個性的な作品を制作していますが、彼らの作品制作のベースには、1998年生まれという共通した世代観があります。その世代観に共通した想いや意識が彼らの作品に反映されています。

1998年から今日までの時間は、見る側である私たちの多くが共に過ごしてきた時代でもあります。9名の作家たちが本展で表現する想いや意識の一部を作品を通して、その一部でも共有していただけましたら幸いです。展示会期は2025年4月18日(金)～2025年5月19日(月)まで。

ステートメント

10代の頃、繰り返し聴いたあの曲を憶い出し、音量を気持ちだけ大きくして再生ボタンを押す。

そうなることの瞬間を　今か今かと悩んでる
どうなることに化合する　うんざりをじっと見つめて
放物線を描いてる　雨上がりを滑ってる
目をこすり疑う景色　そのもとでドラム叩くんだ

 

私たちは何者なのか、私自身は一体誰なのか。
そんな差し迫った焦燥感にも、ただただ純な疑問にも感じられる「奇妙な不安」を彼ら"1998"から感じ取らざるを得なかった。
私たちの世代はこのような得体の知れない空気をただただ、なんとなく引き受けるようにして生きてきた。
終末思想が蔓延した20世紀末、僕らはこの世に生を受けた。2000年代初頭の新自由主義への急激な舵取りの時代、2008年リーマンショックからなる世界同時不況の時代を経て、未曾有の震災、パンデミック。私たちが生きた世界は、大きな主語で語ることができる希望は何ひとつとしてなかった。その中で、ただひたすらになめらかに拡がり続ける社会への順応を強いられ、適応することにだけ上手くなった。そこに意思はなかった。心の中でずっと煮え切らないまごつきを抱え、生きている。

しかし、そんな生だとしても、これは確かに私（たち）の生であることに違いはないし、心のどこかで肯定していたいのだ。

本展「1998_oid」は、同じ歴史をともに生き、その世代観を共有する9名の作家による展覧会である。立ち止まり、瞳を合わせ、彼ら・彼女らの作品を通し、展覧会を通して、私たちが生きるこの時を今一度考え直してみてほしい。

Recalling that song I listened to repeatedly in my teenage years, I turn up the volume just a little and press play.

I'm wondering if that will happen any day now
Staring at the disgusting reality
Drawing a parabola, gliding after the rain
I rub my eyes and can't believe what I see, so I play the drums

Who are we, and who am I?
I could not help but feel the “strange anxiety” from them, “1998,” whether it was a sense of urgent frustration or just a pure and innocent question.
Our generation has lived by simply accepting this intangible air, almost unknowingly.
Born in the late 20th century, when apocalyptic thoughts ran rampant, we entered this world. Through the early 2000s, marked by a sharp turn toward neoliberalism, and the global recession caused by the 2008 financial crisis, we have faced unprecedented natural disasters and a pandemic. The world we lived in offered no grand hopes that could be spoken of with any large subjects. In the midst of that, we were forced to smoothly adapt to society, becoming only good at adapting. There was no will in it. We lived while carrying a constant sense of confusion, deep inside.

However, even if this life is as it is, there is no doubt that it is indeed my (our) life, and somewhere in my heart, I want to affirm it.

This exhibition, 1998_oid, is a group exhibition of nine artists who have lived through the same history and share the perspective of that generation. I hope you will pause, make eye contact, and reconsider this moment we are living in, through their works and the exhibition itself.
