November 2026 Isshin Tanizaki NET WORK AND BEING
LURF GALLERY is pleased to announce the solo exhibition “NETWORK AND BEING” by Isshin Tanisaki.
Through his paintings, Tanisaki has explored the fundamental mechanisms by which everything—from nature and life to all other things—comes into being and shapes the world through their mutual interactions. Through his unique style of depiction and layers upon layers of color, he continues to portray not merely the landscapes we see, but the very world in which we live.
In this exhibition, we present not only newly created works based on the themes Tanisaki has explored over many years, but also a large four-panel work that was exhibited in 2026 at Kōmyō-in, a sub-temple of Tōfuku-ji in Kyoto.
The landscapes that unfold across each work reveal different aspects to each viewer, opening space for individual imagination.

STATEMENT
The world is constituted by the existence of an infinite diversity of living beings—plants, trees, insects, fish, and countless other forms of life. Yet the world cannot be constituted by the mere existence of such beings as discrete individuals. It is only through the networks of relations that connect them that the world emerges as a coherent form.
This mode of understanding has existed since ancient times: visible and invisible entities have been connected through relational networks, giving rise to particular conceptions of the world as a whole. My paintings, too, may be situated within this lineage.
What I depict is the familiar world apprehended through the framework of a network. It consists of an accumulation of multiple, localized worlds, each of which becomes a constituent element in the formation of a larger world.

谷﨑 一心
Isshin Tanisaki works with the theme of "life's energy and circulation," painting vortices—combinations of color and texture that symbolize energetic motion—to embody vital force on the canvas. Since the early 2000s he has shown landscapes made from dense fields of fine dots, the very origin of his vortex motif. By positioning the vortex as a primordial form underlying all phenomena, and rendering vortex worlds in a minimalist way, Tanisaki reflects on the energy that generates life itself and on the formation of our everyday world and the cosmos.
